Welcome to the Association of African Students in India, AASI!

The Association of African Students (AASI) in India a non profit Organization, is a re-emerging umbrella organisation uniting all African students in India to facilitate cooperation between its members and the international academic world, study and publicize and advocate the educational and related needs of African higher education institutions.

MAIN OBJECTIVES

The main objectives of the Association are to promote cooperation among African students in the world; collect, classify,modify, improve and disseminate information on higher education and research, particularly in Africa; facilitate cooperation between its members and the international academic world; study and publicize and advocate the educational and related needs of African higher education institutions; and facilitate the exchange of information and experience among members of the academic community, and promote best practices..

OUR HISORY

Having started in 1960s by late Malawian President His Excellency Prof. Dr. Bingu Wa Mutharika who was a student at the Shri Ram College of Commerce, University of Delhi in India by then. It later lost momentum when he left due to some reasons and it was reignited by Emmanuel Earl Ankrah after the visit of late Prof. Dr. Bingu in India in November, 2010.

 

What we do

We facilitate the exchange of information, culture and experience among members of the academic community and to contribute to African development by fostering collaboration among its member students; by providing support to their core functions of teaching, learning, research and community engagement; and by facilitating critical reflection and consensus-building around, issues affecting higher education and the development of Africa.

THE PRESIDENT

UDOCHI UGONNA ONYEIKE

Udochi Ugonna Onyeike is a medical physiologist and soon to be medical doctor who got into her profession as a result of her passion to help people and also change the health system in her country Nigeria. Being a woman empowerment activist led her to found an Association, African Ladies Association which unites and empowers women around her. She has been opportuned to serve as the Joint Secretary of External Affairs (2017/18) of Medical Students’ Association of India (MSAI) and the General Secretary of AINSCA (2016-2018). With an insatiable appetite for knowledge and a passionate heart, she has attended many conferences and organized many awareness programs. She is the state head representative of Careers360 as well as a student Ambassador of Elsevier (one of the world’s major providers of scientific, technical and medical information). As the president of AASI- Jaipur, her vision is to enhance, equip and empower African students with the knowledge and skills to make a difference, to live as a standard of excellence and restore glory to her motherland.
