Welcome to the Association of African Students in India, AASI!

The Association of African Students (AASI) in India a non profit Organization, is a re-emerging umbrella organisation uniting all African students in India to facilitate cooperation between its members and the international academic world, study and publicize and advocate the educational and related needs of African higher education institutions.

MAIN OBJECTIVES

The main objectives of the Association are to promote cooperation among African students in the world; collect, classify,modify, improve and disseminate information on higher education and research, particularly in Africa; facilitate cooperation between its members and the international academic world; study and publicize and advocate the educational and related needs of African higher education institutions; and facilitate the exchange of information and experience among members of the academic community, and promote best practices..

OUR HISORY

Having started in 1960s by late Malawian President His Excellency Prof. Dr. Bingu Wa Mutharika who was a student at the Shri Ram College of Commerce, University of Delhi in India by then. It later lost momentum when he left due to some reasons and it was reignited by Emmanuel Earl Ankrah after the visit of late Prof. Dr. Bingu in India in November, 2010.

 

What we do

We facilitate the exchange of information, culture and experience among members of the academic community and to contribute to African development by fostering collaboration among its member students; by providing support to their core functions of teaching, learning, research and community engagement; and by facilitating critical reflection and consensus-building around, issues affecting higher education and the development of Africa.

THE PRESIDENT

KUDZAI PETRA PHIRI

Kudzai has proven to be a game changer in her area of expertise. She has received several awards, including recognition by the R.E.E.B.A organization (United Kingdom) as the International Entrepreneur of the Year 2015 (FOREVER BUSINESS OWNER). Her research on the Association of Fingernail Hygiene to Oral Health Among Children in Jaipur, India made it into the top 50 finalists in the All India Poster Competition, held earlier this year, in February. She was voted as the Profile of the Year 2016, by the Indian Dental Association. She has been appointed in different leadership roles, including being the Vice President of the African Ladies Association (India). She is humbled to be leading Africa’s future leaders through the guidance of this association. Her vision, as the state president, is to promote the awareness of AASI among Africans and Indians and to find productive ways to enhance the relationships between Africans and to build stronger mutual relationships between Africans and Indians as a whole.
